I should know this by now but I don't. What does 8-bit graphics and 8-bit games and such mean? I feel stupid to ask this question, but I just don't know. I've heard the word "bit" used so often to describe so many computer related things that I don't really know what it means. So what does an 8-bit (or 16-bit, or whatever) game mean? And is it at all related to computer programs? For example, you buy 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows.

Back then, before consoles were strong, games were made in lesser resolutions. 8-bit according to wikipedia is: "In computer architecture, 8-bit integers, memory addresses, or other data units are those that are at most 8 bits (1 octet) wide. Also, 8-bit CPU and ALU architectures are those that are based on registers, address buses, or data buses of that size. 8-bit is also a term given to a generation of microcomputers in which 8-bit microprocessors were the norm." and, "8-bit CPUs were widely used in home computers and second- and third-generation game consoles of the '70s and '80s" too.

This is looking great. Are the two points actually doing anything? They're not rotating with the player, even on a slope. Also I think you should rotate back to zero degrees when you're in the air. It's just my opinion, I think it looks better that way. And is wall jumping supposed to make you do a back flip?

Yes the wall jumps should do that. lol. And yes, I should do that. And the two points are doing something. It's a little difficult to explain, but since the points don't update right in y position, what I did was, I set a timer that flickers from 1 to 0 and I check if the timer is 0 and the points do stuff only when it's 0. So then the rotation only happens when the timer is 0. It actually is doing something lol.

A little update guys. So, I downloaded an extended flxtilemap class. It allows for slopes... There are slopes in my game now... but I can't upload a demo yet. I will probably wait until Pencilmaster finds out, because he's probably gonna love this. It's great to have friends(Pencilmaster and I are technically collaborating.
How long have slopes been in? WHY ARE YOU NOT TELLING ME OVER SKYPE?
Nevermind, I am not online enough lately xD

@A Wizard: I can jump up to there, but I dont really fit. I no fits, so I no sits.

EDIT
Hmm, that doesn't look like I thought it would... Nice slope feature by the way. Oh and, in my opinion, most important design feature for a game like this: Make sure all the platforms are matched to the controls and jumping. Makes these kind of games much better.

2ND EDIT

I bet you can't do this! It's pretty hard, actually.

Little update on the status of platformer_physics: The player now moves relative to his rotation (no 360 though.) Sin and cos and all that stuff... the code I used for making it move relative to the player's rotation was found in an old topic somewhere in the old topics of BGF... (It was tip by Videoguy on how to move the player relative to rotation.) I don't feel like uploading it because the change won't be really visible at all. All that's different is that the player isn't ridiculously fast when going up certain steep slopes...
