Okay, this was an idea I had for a topic today at school. (It's not what you're thinking, probably.)

Since a bunch of people on the forum do coding in Flash, I was thinking we could put our skills to the test for a little game. Nothing big, nothing elaborate, just something fun. The way it works is, I (or someone else) creates a "challenge", and then we all try and code that in Flash as fast as possible. You would have to make a video to prove it, and then the person with the fastest time.

If you think this is a good idea, tell me and I'll post some rules/challenges. If not, I'll close the topic.

I'm gonna call game over before the coin is even flipped. AS3 FTW.

* Faster
* Event Model
* More namespaces (protected and internal, and private is actually private).
* Packaging
* Better structured (can you say addChild()?)
* lighter Sprite class
* Awesome XML parsing
* Better error-handling
* Faster

It looks like a "Faster sandwich" to me, ladies and gentlemen. And there's lots of tasty treats in the middle too. I'll give AS2 a half-point for using a bit fewer lines of code, but after 20,000 lines or so, who's counting?

The point is, you can't stay in AS2 forever, or you'll eventually be in the dust. In order to stay on top of the game, you should know not only what AS3 can offer, but what to expect in AS4. The only excuse for staying behind is "I don't want to learn it".

Now, who votes for FPA in AS3 (it rolls right off the tongue if you ask me)?

Although i will still be using AS2 to do all of my programming testing/beta versions, I would love to be able to translate it all into AS3 for the final product for two main reasons.
1) It's a lot faster
2) It's closer to an actual language like C++

So i am currently trying to change my platforming engine into AS3 right now and i am stumped on how to do my key presses.

How would i change this kind of code into AS3?

if(Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)
if(!Key.isDown(Key.LEFT) && !Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT))

Thanks for the help!
