Alien Swarm

A new game, coming out tomorrow for free. It's made by modders hired by Valve, and would be similar to L4D.

I have quite high expectations for this game, even though it seems to be rather short (and no story), but the co-op makes up for that. It kinda seems as if this is the "trial work" of the developers before they become an actual part of Valve.

I'm planning on playing it tomorrow too.

From the same people that made L4D, I'm sure. They were working on this before Valve bought them, and then made L4D 1 & 2 and came back to this.

Seems like L4D in a HL2-like universe to me. Those aliens remind me a lot of Antlions.

Do you guys think this is just a game to make publicity for other Valve products, or will it become a new Source series?

I think the first for now, maybe we'll get a sequel and it'll become a full-blown franchise.

Also, it's not really an FPS since it's thirdperson top-down view.

Well, no FPS really, but still.

Also, I don't think that this would work as a source series. To much of the good you know. Can't just "combine" L4D and HL2 and make it work with a sequel.

I think it's PR mainly for the Source SDK. The code itself is open-source and shown off to the public. So people can see how the pros use the Source SDK and steamworks integration etc.

Should be fun to play regardless. Maybe if a few of us get it tomorrow, we can play together tomorrow.

I'll be at bently... But I was planning on bringing my laptop this week... Also, when the day campers leave I have some free time... I could play it then.

Ah, my laptop probably won't be able to handle the game actually. Looking at the specs, everything is fine except my video card. That's consistently been my downfall with this laptop, doesn't have a proper graphics card (has an Intel integrated one).

Mine's integrated as well, but it's still good

I know it's hard because it's a laptop, but can't you replace it?
Or did you buy a new desktop already?

My laptops graphics are integrated as well. My computer is Nvidea gtx 480. The ones at Bentley are Nvidea Geforce 2200.

@Nyubis: Still looking to buy a new desktop. Looking into what my uncle has in stock currently actually.

@liphttam1: My university department recently got the latest Dell model desktops with Xeon processors.

Mine's also in-built Intel. But it seems to work actually. Usually, in-built means cr*ppy.

It usually does.

My graphics card fails every test I throw at it, other things holding it up mean I can actually continue to play games on my laptop.

Well you could try if you set all settings to the lowest. And I doubt I'll be able to play it today, it releases at 10 pm for me, my desktop is in my parents room and they have to get up very early tomorrow, so...

Well, this game comes out early in the morning for me, and I'm really excited about it. A free game, and it isn't horrible! I want to play with you all, looks like fun. The problem is I'm a n00b, so you may not want to play with me. I guess we'll cross that bridge when it comes.

@Nyubis: About same time for me. Then count with a few hours of so for downloading.

Also, I've been watching a laptop for 10.000sek (kronor) that has a 1GB nVidea card in it. And an Intel i7 core. (About 2.8GHz, it says). Seems like a pretty sweet laptop really.
