OMGWTF!!! Why didn't I discover this topiv before!! I'm a freakin' book lover!!!
Here's The list of series iv'e read:
Harry Potter
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Heroes of Olympus
The Kane Chronicles
Artemis Fowl
Sherlock Holmes(All of them)
Agatha Christie(NEARLY all of them)
Alex Rider
Philosophical/Spiritual books by authors like Richard Bach and Paulo Coelho
Perry Mason series(Some of them)(I also loooooooooove the Phoenix Wright DS videogame series)
Wimpy Kid series(I HATE THOSE!)
Aaaaaaaaaaaand many more which I can't remember off the top of my head.
EDIT: @ICARAX & Coolnesiac: OMG!!!! You guys too?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!
I usually finish a book in a sitting or two consisting of a couple of hours.
My cousin too thinks I skip chapters, but I challenged her saying that I could read faster and remember much more than she ever could. She accepted, resulting into a full blown-hour-long reading session of Flatland by Edwin Abbott(Thankfully,She had a second copy at hand),afterwards, she didn't even remember the name of he author, much less any of the content in the book. I,on the other hand, could still tell you most of the salient points in the book.
Are you guys Grammar and spelling Nazis too?Posted 8 months ago # -

Is so:SETEMBRO

Is it a coincidence that smileylover's list is almost the same as mine?
I read the secret series too, recently finished This Book isn't What it Looks Like.
Even though I don't like the air of mystery surrounding it,at least it's a fresh read.
@smileylover; Which is your favorite Agatha Christie book? Mine is "And Then There Were None",her masterpiece, but my favorite series is Poirot stories.
Have any of you read Lance Armstrong's autobiography "It's Not About The Bike"? A very fast-paced,yet enlightening read, how willpower can accomplish anything, even help destroy cancer.
btw Does anybody else here think that The Kane Chronicles series doesn't live up to the Percy Jackson series, especially The Throne of Fire? Same for the Heroes of Olympus series.Posted 8 months ago # -
Yes, it is a coincidence. I really like the writing style of the Secret Series (like how the author narrates it) and I like the air of mystery. Though I don't believe that the names are changed, because logically, Cass's name has to be the same because of what they said about predicting disasters.
The Poirot ones are my favorites also! I think my favorite Agatha Christie book is probably "Murder on the Orient Express". I didn't love "And Then There Were None" because I thought it was depressing how everyone died. I don't like it when books have depressing endings.
I haven't read that, I'll look for it in the library.
I completely agree about the Kane Chronicles. The Percy Jackson series is way better. I think the Heroes of Olympus series is pretty good so far, but still not as good.Posted 8 months ago # -
@smileylover: And Then There Were None wasn't popular because of anything but the intricate and ingenious plot. Iv'e seen a good few reproductions of it since(Plays, movies)but none of them live up to the original.
And regarding Cass's name, that is also a good theory since it fits in with the predicting thing and everybody would believe that is her fake name."The best way to hide something is to put it in plain sight."Posted 8 months ago # -
@Atilioo: I've read all of the ones that are out in the US, so the 10th.
@offtopic: I'm not saying I didn't like "And Then There Were None," and I agree that the plot is interesting, but I didn't like that the murder wasn't solved. Am I the only one who likes books with happy endings? I don't like it when they are depressing and it really really bothers me when they end on cliffhangers. I think that the Harry Potter books and the Percy Jackson books have good endings because they feel like endings and they don't leave any loose ends, but there is still an ongoing story throughout the series.Posted 8 months ago # -
Well, yeah, but ending books on cliffhangers is kinda like a marketing ploy,to make you want the next book,or maybe it's just because the author needs more time to plan out the events of the next book.
Just read the first page of this thread,I loooooooove the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy trilogy in five parts, anyone read the sixth part by Eoin Colfer?(Author of Artemis Fowl). It's a great book, written just the way Douglas Adams would have if he finished the series.Posted 8 months ago # -
OK,I've been waiting for more than two weeks hoping that somebody would revive this topic, now,I suppose I shall have to take the duty upon myself,at the risk of being PWNED for double posting and banned into oblivion where only dead spiders, ninjas and bad pixels go.(*Sigh*I do have quite an active imagination, don't I?)
Well then,spiritual books anyone?Posted 8 months ago # -
Well, I lately found that book "So you think you know Harry Potter?" It actually is a bit stupid.

@offtopic: Sorry, I would have revived it, but I haven't posted in ages. School just started and I've been insanely busy with homework, etc.
I actually didn't love "A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy." After a point, it seemed like the series didn't have any point. I like books that are funny, but I think they still need to have a real storyline that makes at least some sense.
Does anyone here write books? I usually don't, but for English class I have to write a page about anything each week. My first two were really bad, but a few days ago I came up with a really good idea for a story. I can tell people if they're interested....Posted 8 months ago # -
@smileylover: Yes please,i'd like to know.
btw The best thing about the H2G2 series is that they don't HAVE a plotline, that's what makes it all the more funnier!Posted 8 months ago # -
Okay, so there's this girl. Her father left her mother when she was little, and they don't have much money. She has one friend, a guy whose parents are both dead. He used to have a brother, but then his brother did something illegal and the police put him in jail for it even though it was something really small. He lives with foster parents but they don't trust him because they think he does drugs because he's always out places and he doesn't talk to them. A few months ago the girl and the guy did some shoplifting together, but now they don't any more. Basically they're really close friends and they don't really have anyone else. The girl is tough. She isn't in a lot of fights but she knows how to defend herself and she always carries a knife with her because she has to walk through a bad neighborhood to get to school. He knows how to defend himself too, but he's not very strong. He has more morals then her, and he keeps her from doing bad things sometimes.
The story begins with the girl seeing a thing about a murder on TV. She thinks it's awful and vaguely thinks "Wow, that happened pretty close to here!" Then later, the police come to her house. She hears her mom talking to them and overhears them saying that they want to ask her questions about the guy because he "could be involved in some illegal activity." She thinks they mean the shoplifting, panics, and runs out of the house. Then she realizes that they were talking about the murder and she goes to this place where he always hangs out to warn him. She realizes that they probably think she's an accomplice because she ran away. They aren't thinking straight and they decide to run away. They go back to his foster parents' house but they see police cars there and they just go. She has about 30 dollars in her pocket but that's it. The police are following them. Once they almost catch them but it's just one guy and she kicks him where it hurts and they run away again. They're trying to escape the police and they also suspect that this other guy framed them so they're trying to find a way to prove that it was him and not them. She also steals money from somebody when they're really desperate, so even though they're innocent, the police are still like, "she assaulted a police officer and stole money, she's an evil person!" That's about as far as I've gotten at this point. I haven't actually written very much of it. It's narrated by the girl in first person. She has a sort of cynical view of the world. I'm debating whether or not I should add some romance between them or just keep them really good friends. I don't want it to be too much of a stereotypical story.Sorry, that came out pretty long. If anyone has any advice or criticism, I'd like to hear it...
