...who let you be mod?

Despite Dax's slightly arrogant nature, he is a pretty good mod. The problem is that all the mods have been using this forum pretty regularly since at least ME2D. Even I, who only joined last year, have noticed the forum change in a fair few ways (and I don't just mean all the blue...).
I think in a way, Dax is trying to keep the forum from changing too much. This forum used to be a great place. It's still good, but it sure is losing it's shine.
And I think the addition of the four new mods has been what's changed that. When WJUK was the lone mod, things seemed so much more relaxed. Now if you post a topic about drinking orange juice eating cactus's and watching football the topic will most likely be closed...

Dax is just trying too hard. A lot of our new users post three times, then leave, because people swoop down on how they didn't use search or post in the borne cafe...
If everyone were to lighten up just a little bit, I think I could actually start to enjoy this place again...

Ah, but the thing is that you guys don't mean it when you're posting something about eating oranges while sitting on a cactus. There's this balance between good silly and bad silly, but also too much silly (and not enough silly).

Since FFA's Ubuntu 11.04 thread (I believe) his posting has gotten even worse and worse. A ton of his posts are worse than anything I've ever seen and multiple are just hate. Why would I allow a post saying "oooook"?

Believe me, I care about this place and therefore I don't accept people trying to ruin it. And the only person who's actively trying to destroy is FFA (which is odd considering he made good posts to begin with (except everything he wrote about religion and stuff)).

All the mods have been on this forum for a long time (and I mean, a long time) and Brad didn't make us mods overnight. I believe Brad had thought it out thoroughly when choosing who can be mods.

DS can be a little harsh sometimes, but that's not a bad quality in a mod. Someone has to be the bad-guy in situations like this, I realise I haven't been as active on the forums as he has, for reasons like real-life. And VG and Nyubis have fallen off the face of the planet. So he has been shouldering a lot of the responsibility of keeping the place hospitable. And we should all appreciate that.

DS usually explains his reasons for his actions too, which helps.

TL;DR: He's not the mod the forum needs, but the mod the forum deserves.

Then again, all the mods are still human (yes, I am too) so errors in judgement can occur. If anyone seriously thinks they have a case to dispute, feel free to contact me (or Brad/FO, but it may take quite some time for them to get back to you). Alternatively, you can contact DS directly and give your side of the story and try to reach an understanding that way.

Please do not post topics simply to post topics. Every topic must have a general purpose and be open for some form of discussion. Please do not topic spam (post multiple topics that have no purpose or point)

Although that's talking about topics in particular, the same applies to comments/posts. DS has stated his reasons for his actions through posts that you have made like the following:

Looking back on some of your history I've found other posts similar to:

oooook...

(Which was actually double-posted)

And...

boring...

These don't add anything to the topic at all. There is a time and a place for that (rotfl lmao, for example) but posts that solely consist of "boring..." is not constructive in any way.

You've got to understand, we're not particularly picking on you specifically. As far as I've seen, we've been rather lenient about your posing behaviour (on account that you do post some serious topics/posts). On other forums, you may have received temp-bans and/or perma-bans already.

Basically, before you post just think about what you're typing, then ask yourselves these questions:

>Does what I'm posting add to the discussion in a meaningful way?
>Does is make sense?
>Is it not offensive?
>Is it not random one-word posts that don't do anything?

If the answer to all of the above is "yes" then go ahead and post.

@FFA: The reason it's sometimes easier to take correction from WJUK is because he's a bit more, "soft" in the way he corrects? Which is cool, but if you're going to be hanging around the internets, you're going to need to be able to respect mods even if they are a bit more stern. Ds is just a bit less tolerant of people breaking rules, so he blows up a bit easier. Or at least, he warns people in a bit more of a threatening way.

I like WJUK, DS, and all of those other mods. and im not just saying that, i mean it, brad chose you guys really well. I never knew that there was only one mod originally. (WJUK) now i DO!!!

@Wingy: Pretty much the same down in Melbourne. The place can be described as having '4 seasons in one day.' So glad I live in Queensland.
