Okay, i got the idea from Electron. I'm Developing a game called Chocolate, and the main character is a girl called chocolate, who likes chocolate... and lives in the land ... Drunken Beer! (Not chocolate!) seriously, i can't change the name now cuz my first cutscene has 'The Land Of Drunken Beer' written on all the signs, and i'm too lazy to change it. Basically its a platformer, You play as a little girl, (i'll post the pic later) who turns into a savage beast (The Merciless, Were-Rabbit!) if she dosn't get her daily dose of chocolate, but an evil scientist, (Dr.Moo Moo) is taking all the chocolate in the land, to use in his evil experiments with the Toxic Chemical, Chemical X! (Just kidding, actually the toxic chemical is white chocolate.) Thats about it, im pretty good with most of the game, except for one critical element which only one person in the worl can help me with, (**cough**cough**BRAD!**cough**) actually the only part i really need help with is slope detection, and since i code in AS2, (as3 is killing me) Brad is probably the only person int he universe who can help. But given time, i might figure it out. Anyway, anyone want to put in some ideas?

First off: sounds like a pretty interesting game. Have you got a beta?

Secondly: Brad doesn't tell how he does his slope detection. He hasn't told anyone. We do have a number of slope detection topics where the best ideas are shared.

i get it. i browsed through the whole forum and all brad said was "How do i do my slope detection? Magic "

God, i have to find a great way to do this. As for the Beta. Well, i want to make the Beta standalone, like not really just a level off the game, but its own deal, so it may take me some time. If it takes over a month i'll probably just rip off a level from the main game, slap the word beta below every hint of the title, and post it. lol. but still, i need more content, especially a battle system, i was thinking of doing the hopping thing like in Mario, but Brad used that in FPA, and i dint' want this to be another FPA copy, anyway, ill try to post some concept art, and anyone with some great ideas for a combat system, PLZ HELP!

P.S. Don't expect a release date, the beta alone will take me over a month to draw, outline, color and code, then i have to add the menus and all that crap. So anyone asking for a release date, heres ur answer: "June 12th 2152"

It's obvious that Brad has made a deal with the devil to obtain such good slope detection... XD

The concept sounds interesting, but actually making it is another story altogether. As people around the forum will tell you.

As for slope detection, you're probably have to do it the regular way that most people do with the two detectors to either side to calculate gradient.

@WingDemon: Often this forum's slope detection stories are tragic. And even if you do get something working, it will probably not be that great. Maybe you should use a piece of code like:

while(ground.hitTest(_x,_y,true)){
this._x--;
}

With that, your Char will be able to go up slopes, but won't rotate with them.

the hardest part of slope detection is trying to get your character to move on the slopes at the right speed. I've tried a few things, but i was just guessing.. it would take most people while to figure it out mathematically, i just don't feel like wasting my time (i'll prolly never find any use for the code anyway, so whats the point right?)

i get it, i'll probably figure it out somehow, the thing is the slopes in the games aren't like the ones in FPA, they're mostly like just curves with the line tool, very small slopes, and like hills, all done with the line tool, basically, im looking for code that allows my character to walk up a hill, and roll down it if it goes to fast while ascending. I'll figure it out... eventually.

i'll upload them by the end of the day (its 11:59 A.M. where i am) the main character, don't expect much, but the other characters il be pretty cool, im a guy, so im not making them to girlish, but since the main characters a girl who think about rainbows, bunnies and unicorns all day, my characters took a long time to design.

i probably wont be posting any more concept, im mainly gonna be working on the game demo and post a few screen shots.

yeah, he was a doodle, i'm buying a tablet next month, and i kinda dropped my mouse, once, or twice, O.K. alot. and now its dosn't go straight, it kinda spins when you move it, it took me 10 minutes for those 2 drawings. lol.

Chocolate Girl is cartoon-e but the bunny is not. That is a bit confusing.

th bunny is cartoony, just more of a grisley, evil cartoony, think of ,uhm, well actually, no one did this yet. i'll post some gameplay footage tommorow.

heres the Engine, i know its crappy, i threw it together in a couple of hours. I'm going to use tiles instead of slopes for the Demo, cuz slope detection is proving to be harder than i thought, maybe another game. the tiles used are actually only the grass tiles, i have more, but was too lazy to slip them in, could ya'll give me feedback on the camera and my conversion to tiles. also, can anyone tell me why the Player always slips through the ground when jumping from a high place?
