I've never played the Civ games, to be honest.
Me neither, are they anything like Age of Empires?

Civilization is awesome. I've played 1, 3, 4 and they are amazing games. Not really like AOE, it's all turn-based and bigger in scope.
Civ 5 looks awesome, can't wait.
Oh, I like how AOE is not turn based.

Same. I loved AOE and played it to death.
Civ is about the only turn based game that I really like.
Its really because of (like WJUK said) the scope of the whole thing is massive and it doesnt feel like a TBS at all.
The multiplayer sucks though.
AOE is also a great game.
Haha, pretty much the same. I'm always been so-so on turn-based games. I can cope with turn-based RPGs and such, but sometimes it just goes to slow. But with Civ, there's always something to do.
It is partialy because Civ is massive and you forget that the game is turn based because it is so freaking huge!
Civilization V Website:
@WJUK: What do you think of the Hexagonal tiles?
As for the Australian Civ, there are only 18 Civs, so probably the 18 from the original Civ IV (possibly in an expansion).
Frankly, I don't see it being able to not be turn-based. It's one of those games where real-time just wouldn't work, it's like Total War's campaigns.
I'm intrigued by the hex tiles. It just screams hardcore game to me, reminds me of a war board game. XD
It certainly brings something new to the table, since instead of squares (or diamonds or whatever) where you only have 4 adjacent tiles; you'll now have 6. Which changes the dynamic of the game ENTIRELY. Everything from resource management on cities to battles (since they can be fought of 6 fronts now).
To be frank, I think it's a genius concept. It seems like a natural progression of the game and while they're trying to add something new, even from the screenshots I can tell that it's still a true Civ game at heart.
I'm genuinely hyped about it. Probably a first-day purchase for me unless something goes horribly wrong.

It's too.
Oh, and Hexagonal tiles seems extremely cool, I remember my dad bought heroscape marvel edition. (without asking me first). Right before tossing it aside I noticed the hexagonal tiles and Thought about an turn based Civilization based game with em..
I feel like a psychic.

Just because you dreamed about doesnt mean that it is your Intelectual Propery.
As for first day buy, HELL YEAH!!!
It will probably be released in Australia last so you guys will play it before me
P.S. Is Nyubis on holidays, because he said he has Civ IV and Id have thought he would be all over this thread(or was it you WJUK).
I don't want to make money off of simple ideas like that.

Nyubis is in Prague right now.
I'm not sure if he has Civ IV, but I certainly do. I also have BTS expansion pack.
I have CivIV Complete.
It is pretty awesome(although the only bit I like about warlords is the cutscene at the start)
Is Warlords worth it? I had considered getting it, but never got enough cash/time to get it. Unfortunately, I haven't played Civ in a while due to other commitments; although talking about it has certainly piqued my interest again.
I got complete because it was cheaper than buing Civ + BTS.
Just after making this thread I went and kicked Roosevelt and Huayna Capacs arse.
Aztecs for the win!
I bought Civ IV when it came out, so I couldn't get complete. Picked up BTS when it came out too.
I hate playing against the Aztecs, Montezuma backstabs way too much. I usually play the tech route, and by mid/late game I've got tanks against other people's archers. And he still frickin' declares war on me.
I play as Montezuma. I'll sometimes play as the russians though.
Depends on what victory I want.
