I saw that review and didn't agree with this guy when he said something bad about FPA! I give FPA 10/10!

I vote for close.
This review is offensive to most of us, and to Brad. 5.5/10? More like 10/10!
BTW, that guy fails at fighting Captain Rainbowbeard, I saw he didn't know how to hurt him. The guy just kept trying to jump on him at the wrong time.People are just like animals.

i vote +1 for NOT close, i think his criticism was constructive, ascertaining to his points, i would've given the game a 5.5/10, but in my own experience i give it an 8/10. its not an insult to Brad, because it helps him. when he watches the review, he'll notice that some things can be improved, and future games will be better. Though you guys are right that he shouldn't have made a separate thread, he's new, and didn't know. i think we should leave this up so brad can watch the review and give his own remarks.
P.S. not to be rude, but no one likes a kiss-ass

Not going to close this thread since we've at least got some discussion going.
And because someone disagrees with you, or you find their opinion offensive, doesn't mean that they did something wrong.
This guy is giving constructive criticism, like WD said. Not in cruelty

Yes, to all who say that this topic has a reason, but the fact is, he could have posted this review on:

I'd give the game overall though 9.5/10 because of minor issues.

I haven't played the game, since I don't have an xbox or anything, so I guess I can't judge, but just from watching videos, etc, I know I would definitely give it better than a 5.5/10!!! But I wouldn't be too harsh on the guy who reviewed it, everyone likes different things in their games and that's just his opinion.

Everyone has their own opinions and a game can never satisfy anyone (as hard as developers may try).
He may have been a little harsh in some areas, but sometimes you've got to expect better to get better.

Heh, well, I don't think anyone is as critical of FPA than I am, there's definitely a handful of fixes that I'm trying to patch in that takes care of most of reviewer's complaints, but I can't stand when people complain about the wall jump, STOP HOLDING UP if you don't want to backflip.
FPA isn't about speed, it's about flow. Sonic is about bursts of speed mixed with awkward platforming. Sonic 4 is faster paced? Wow. Being boosted through a level isn't 'fast paced', it's platforming on rails.
Hm, I did comment on that video a million years ago, and the guy still hasn't responded to my comment

@Brad: I got overdramatic earlier, I guess I can't stand it when someone criticizes Fancy Pants Adventures. I thought it was so awesome when Fancy Pants Man got a new type of jump when he ran. It made his jumps a whole lot faster. Also, the new walljump was so cool, he can bounce off those walls like a ping-pong ball. The only thing that needs room for improvement is how Fancy Pants Man is so... clunky the few seconds after he uses the pencil.
BTW, was the pencil inspired when FPM appeared in Newgrounds Rumble? After all, he DID wield one there.

Well, I animated FPM for Rumble, but I did start animating more... carefully? while doing those sprites, sort of changed my animation style overall. But yeah, I mean, FPM's pencil was my idea from the start, and still animated by me, but it certainly helped me to think of FPM as a fighter.
Clunkiness, yeah, I'm looking into things like that now, though the best way to avoid the pencil clunkiness is to land and go into a slide, forces him to put it up right away.

There are so many secrets about the pencil that I never even knew! That's real nice programming skills. I've tried to program things before, and I fail miserably.

I agree with this statement wholeheartedly. That's actually one of the major reasons I loved the old 2D Sonic games. Team Sonic lately have just been shouting "MOAR SPEED" and throwing it at Sonic fans faces. But when you look at it, it was tight controls and amazing level designs that made the old games great. The old games also had less "platforming on rails" as you said, the new 3D ones have a lot of "jump on rail/jump-pad, game will play itself for a little while" stuff. And the lock-on mechanic seems really out of place to me usually, personally I don't think it works too well.

*ahem* But yea, what Brad is doing is the difference between a good developer and a great one nowadays. The ability to support the game after release is a great thing all developers should use (but not take advantage of... like some games that are released broken).

It's funny, I actually started playing through all the Sonics in order, as much as everyone thinks FPA is influenced by Sonic, I never really played much of it growing up, always been a Mario guy. The first Sonic game is super slow. Like, really really really slow. But the level design is great and open in the beginning, then starts to close up with more difficult (but still straightforward) platforming challenges. Which I really like, honestly.
It just sounds like fans of Sonic actually ever played Sonic games before.
As they go on, the game gets more bursts of speed in it, which is great in small doses, but then becomes more about flipping switches, riding platforms, or (ugh), bouncing around uncontrollably in pinball bumpers.
Great games still, but honestly, I'm not sure if anyone really knows why they're great...

It does sorta sound like it. I'm still unsure why they're so obsessed with speed in general, maybe because it was the counterpoint to Mario.
That being said, I remember one thing from Sonic 3 that got on my nerves so much and broke the game flow.

Man, those things sucked. My younger self could never understand how they work, wasn't till years later when I replayed Sonic 3 did I figure it out and passed the Carnival Night stage.
If you're playing through the Sonic games in order, be prepared for these things.

fpa has room for improvement and a lot glitches (or bugs im not sure what the difference is) but im sure that with 1-3 patches (depending on if they'll just be released with everything or just fluently) it will be fixed. I've got it and i still think it should have an 8/10.
That being said i have been tracking this for a while and maybe it's just my hype for it that makes me like it. But i do think that what brad said about sonic the and difference about the speed and the flow is 98 percent correct (the other 2 percent is because of the hype and it was the creator's point)Posted 2 years ago # -
I find it makes a big difference whether you're playing co-op. It tends to be a lot more fun with other people - like every other game, I guess.
