I just purchased a Nintendo 64 for approximately £13.50, 1 pound of which is for the charity ActionAid (I feel like a good person now :3).
Since I thought due to my age I missed out on those classic mario games etc, I thought I'd get something special, and now I need suggestions for games to get from you guys. Nothing too obscure, I want to be able to find it 
So yeah, any suggestions? Bear in mind I don't really like shooter style games.

Three Words: SUPER MARIO 64!
I still consider that the best 3D Mario game ever (at least from what I've seen of the others). You'll have a lot of fun playing it, even if the graphics aren't 100% great.
Mario Kart 64 is kinda fun too, but if I had to recommend one, SM64 would be my first choice.

Conkers Bad Fur Day is definitely a must play, along with Donkey Kong 64. Lylat Wars (Think it was also called Star Fox 64) is also worth checking out.
Ocarina of Time is a MUST. Similarly with SM64. I'm not too sure on Goldeneye since you don't really like FPS' but I suggest that if you can borrow/rent the game since it was really fun (especially with friends). Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie (I think it's called) it's good too.
Oh! And Sin and Punishment, although you'll probably have a hard time finding that.
I can't believe no one has mentioned Goldeneye. Pretty much defined the multiplayer fps as we know it. In fact, I hope you have some friends and a few extra controllers, because multiplayer is where the N64 shines. Already mentioned, but I second Bad Fur Day and Mario Kart 64. I'll add Bomberman 64 and Mario Party to that list.
Twisted Edge Extreme Snowboarding was a personal favorite of mine. My friends and I used to play that game for hours.
Super Smash Bros., Killer Instinct Gold and Mortal Kombat Trilogy if you like fighters.

I agree that playing with other people is fun on the N64, but that's true for all consoles I find. Whether that be local or online (personally I prefer local more than online, even if it does mean I have to look at only a quarter of my TV).
I've found that both Golden Eye and Perfect Dark (two awesome multiplayer games of the era) really don't stand the test of time. We've come such a long way from there, and while nostalgia is great, it's only good until you get frustrated with how basic and unrefined the controls are.
Still, worth checking out for history's sake.
If you have other people to play with, Mario Kart 64 is amazing. My family still plays battle mode almost every night

I still love Goldeneye, personally. You just have to change the control style to Solitare, and presto, the 64 version of dual analog!

It doesn't matter as long as your having fun. And frankly, I have a lot of that when playing GE. 
The same with the original Halo. These two games totally redefined the FPS genre, in equally different yet strangely related ways. GE brought multiplayer fun to your living room, while Halo bought stream-lined online play to the masses.
Touche. Super Smash Bros 64 was a good game. I'm not sure how I missed that out.
I think it's because I fast-posted him or something, and everyone seemed to have missed it.
