well, you dont really need audio. actually, in game audio would be really annoying in a montage. what you could do is add a sound track using some program or other. maybe moviemaker or whatever. with a bit of decent editing, a sound track could fit in amazingly, and it could make it look choreographed.
Is there one! MUST TRY. I think you can have live comments with that to. Just start recording your mic at the same time you start the Snes9x recording. The patch it together with e. g. Windows Movie Maker.
That only works in theory, because if your computer lags then the commentary will, but the video will keep going (a pretty cool feature in SNES9X), causing major desync hell for you later.

I think, montage-wise, just film clips WITHOUT the sound. So it'll be smaller in size (so easier to pass on to the editor) which will then put a soundtrack atop that.

You mean re-syncing video, right? 
Definitely, don't include sound, since it won't be necessary and just makes the file bigger.
Well I was referring to when you watch videos (e.g. on YT) and the audio de-syncs itself from the video. But re-syncing is also a major pain. What I have to do is cut out segments of the audio every so often to sync it back up.
Good thing is with BSR Recording, I give it High-Level processing power (or something) so it rarely de-syncs now.

Camstudio is pretty good and easy to use, so I'd suggest that.
