Only about 30% is playable in the demo. I've built more levels, but they're only half done...
Anyway, I'd be interested to hear what people think of it - FPA is one of my big inspirations.

Your link doesnt work. Try it with this: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/577710
Nice! I remember you launched a video on Youtube announcing this... And the forest at the beginning reminds me of Canopy Forest from FPA!
EDIT: I just figured out the Birds ARE NOT decoration, they bring you up higher! Oh, and Ive got 4.5 Percent done!
EDIT EDIT: Found a glitch. If you lose all your health but you land in water, you dont die.
sedition your such an inspiration.
demo was great.
<3

Thing is, Jade Wolf's never had that magical quality that games like FPA, William & Sly, Sonic, Knytt, Mario etc. have....
There's always been something missing from the game design...
The demo's still missing something in terms of gameplay, but I'm just not quite sure how to make it right...
Personally, I've always liked your games ever since you demoed the first one.
Granted, it may not be as polished as other flash games, although I do feel there is a noticeable improvement as you've progressed. I do like the art-style and how aesthetically pleasing it looks.
The little things (like crows and ladybugs in the scenery) are nice. The main thing that can be improved on, I feel, is the fluidity. It may be an unfair comparison, but compared to something like FPA/Mario/Sonic, it seems to lack the seamlessness. If you understand what I mean.
Overall though, shaping up to be a great game.
pretty cool!!
i like it.
8'th for the day on Newgrounds. Not bad I say.
I think the only way you can really improve the game is to hire an artist.
Right now, all the animations look snappy and un-natural, and the levels look just like poor quality textures.
I think any artist would be stupid to turn their nose at the game, because the gameplay is definitely there.
i didnt want to be rude so u didn't say it, but i agree with Ross.

Yeah, the bitmap texture's just a placeholder for now - but the final one will be in those colours.
Same with the animation - Eventually, I'll probably get rid of the tweens and draw it all by hand. I especially want to fix when you float in a bubble, and when you jump.
Makes you wonder, though - there's heaps of popular Flash games with low quality graphics and animations... I sometimes think that if graphics get past a certain point, they're judged at a higher standard...
----------------------------------------
The main problem for me at the moment is deciding which direction the game should go:
1. A straightforward platformer, akin to Mario 64 - where you try to find Souls (sprites/stars) and use them to unlock new areas, till you eventually unlock the boss
2. A sandbox RPG/platformer, where there are branching missions, and multiple endings.
I'm kind of thinking the latter at the moment... but doing so would present its own challenges... and probably be harder to develop.
-----------------------------------------
-I'd like heaps more NPCs, with missions etc. Maybe you could choose which clan of wolves you help...
-I'd like to at least have things you can discover without any instruction, like if you knock apples out of a tree you can feed a critter, and it can grow up and help you later...
-And things like certain events that only happen in rain, or at night, or during thunderstorms etc. Maybe you can eventually learn how to control the weather?
-I've also got firework shows that you control by playing music on bells... and balloon storms that you ride upwards... but they're not in the demo
Problem, of course, is fitting all this in a Flash game. Don't want it to go to big, of course.
i like the first option better.
the main reason i never completed the first 2 games was because they were tooooo long and not straight forward enough. :/

point made!
The first option would definitely be easier to do and more straightforward.
But if you do the 2nd option correctly, it can be a lot more fun. Make use of abilities you pick up along the way to open up new areas you couldn't reach before etc.
this game is amazing xD the graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is good, and "the slope detection" is perfect!
Yes, it looks like a religious, ancient game. It has a lot of Statues that resemble special god like humans.
Yeah, the first 2 games were set in a sort of magical Thailand - because you never seem to see Thai imagery in games...
Jade Wolf 3 has 3 islands - 'Mesoamerican' (mixes a bunch of central American cultures), Thai, and Balinese... and the levels in the clouds might be medieval French, or ancient Greek... I haven't decided yet.
Greece. make it Greece. Greek culture FTW.
also on the topic of aesthetics i think you should have dynamic music, dynamic lighting/music always make a great game.

Greek buildings would be cool. There is a wealth of knowledge you can draw on too.
Titans/Gods, Daedalus and son, monsters (Minotaur, gorgon etc.), heroes (Heracles, Perseus etc.)
i approve of the comment above me.
[SEAL OF APPROVAL]

I think having it take place in greece is a good idea.
umm i have a question for the guy who made the awesome game:
how do you do the background with different scrolling rates?
im really curious
