Speed depends on more things than just the OS, but I'd have to agree that Macs are usually less bloated then Windows.
Although I'd disagree with TF2, I'm pretty sure you get better FPS on Windows with source games.
When you say "ultra-cheap PCs", you're generalising a bit too much. Depending on specs, you can easily get PCs more expensive than your average Mac. But if you compare something with the same specs, PCs are cheaper, especially if you assemble the parts yourself (which is not possible with Macs). So you get more bang for your buck with PCs!
Macs are personal computers sir.
All in all, there is a good reason MS has the majority share of the computer market. They worked hard to get to that spot and work even harder to keep that spot.
Mostly by blackmailing. I doubt they do actually do a lot of work, and their OS seems to be a lot less polished.
Apple is starting to fall behind too, while Android seems to be on the rise.
I know this doesn't really matter as much as I make it out to be, but Android has 100s of phones with the OS, whereas apple has 2 or 3 models. Users per model, apple dominates. Also, is there gigantic lineups for new HTC phones?
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows XP and now Windows 7 were/are market leaders for a reason
Cause 30 years ago IBM chose MSDOS over DRDOS.
That being said, Linux support is on the rise. But Windows still have the gaming market completely dominated (especially with DirectX).
True.

True.
Putting my 2 cents in there,
i think Macs are better but much (much) more expensive than PC's, so if you have the money to buy one and are not interested in gaming whatsoever, i say go for it.
If you are into gaming, but still want to buy a mac, you'll have to buy 2 computers, because most pc games run on windows
I have both and i don't really use my mac (mini) like at all .. i used it yesterday to play some Halo 1 (i beat the library yesterday ^.^) then i played some Guild Wars (VIA crossover games) but that was about it :/

I'd agree with the fact that Apple doesn't support directX, wich forces game companies to create a brand new engine just for the openGl thingy. I use my PC for (unity?), UDK, sketchup, 3d programs, games n stuff, but do Flash, webs, mails, texts, photoshoppy, etc. on my Mac. I don't want to be coding and drawning for an hour or so, and then my good old PC just stops with it, beeps a few times, and all my programs go white (WIN7). And I do have an Intel i7, good fan, 6 gigs of RAM. You can say i should save from time to time, but i shouldn't have to.
You also see more and more people buying ipads, pods, phones, instead of nokia's (I love black n white nokia's)
@Cool:

There was never any evidence of blackmail by Microsoft, they did start out with a very aggressive marketing strategy. I'll grant you that. "polish" is subjective, so I can't argue with you on that one.

That's not a good indicator of market adoption rate when one of the OS' has one company handling all the hardware & software. Not quite sure what you're asking for about the HTC phones either.

Not completely randomly. If anyone knows what OS to choose, it'd be IBM.
@wd: Just about sums it up.

One thing to note is OpenGL has been around longer than DirectX. It's also multi-platform, meaning it will run on Windows. So why is the market dominated by DirectX? I'll let you guys to research that yourself.

I have never heard of, or encountered this bug. I suggest you get it looked into immediately if it happens often. W7 is currently extremely stable and if you've done nothing wrong, should not encounter issues like that.
You can say i should save from time to time, but i shouldn't have to.
You should save. And make back-ups, regardless of which OS you use. Although most modern-day programs should have an autosave feature anyway.
You also see more and more people buying ipads, pods, phones, instead of nokia's (I love black n white nokia's)
I'm not quite sure what that has to do with anything...
@WJUK Guess DirectX 11 has some nice features, bump maps, image based reflections, polygons get more and less detailed depending on you distance away from them.
And yeah, Adobe should really make autosave functions by now. But if they do, it will cost me €400 for the new CS(?), which is just ridiculous.
@LifeInAnEgg: You can do all of those in OpenGL too... It's mainly the combination of marketing strategy and R&D by Microsoft. They listened and learned what to improve and did, companies took notice. It became the de-facto standard when industry-leaders started pioneering with it. Creating engines for other people to use (Unreal engine etc.)
Adobe doesn't have autosave? That seems like a basic feature they should have...
And their prices are always extortionate.
just 400 ? Hahahahahahahahhahaha.
Here is 1000
.

HTC is an example. Not many people line up for new android phones as opposed to iphones. Part of that is just apple fanatics (but they have those for a reason)
Yesterday I did try an Mac. It is cool.
Plus I did try lately at Toys R Us the Nintendo 3DS. It is REALLY awesome.
@Cool: I'd agree that not as many don't (although there have been some cases). In fact, we can talk about people lining up for Android tablets now.

I only reason I can come up with why people would buy android tablets is because they're cheap, and they think it's the same...
I mean the app store has [SEARCHFACE] 425.000 apps. Beat that MS.
Android has 200.000, wich is quite a lot too.
Win7phoneThingy has ehmm... none? You may wanna quote me on this.
About Adobe, I like them for their ideas, but dislike them for everething else they do.
Apple App store has 500,000+ according to Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/App_Store_%28iOS%29#Milestones
250,000 for Android Market: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_App_Store#Applications_and_downloads
I agree about Adobe, it's because they have no competitors so they can literally charge anything they want.
i thought you said you own any apple devices! :/
