MINECRAFT ! JOURNEY TO THE NETHER! PICTURE DIARY!
long story short, i got my machine to work, and it popped it pops out 30 blocks of obsidian per 5 buckets of lava. everyone wants to see the nether, here it is.
Here is my island, which i created JUST TO HOST THE PORTAL TO THE NETHER. Notch stated that there a small chance monsters from the nether can spawn around you portal, so good idea to keep it away from you house....on its own separate island...

I'm such a wuss. changing my difficulty settings from "Hard" to "peaceful"
My first view of the nether. not as horrible as i thought it would be. though i am on peaceful.....

im gonna mine some light ore, then play with redstone powder and circuitry for a while. then ill continue my picture diary.

@wd: The Nether is so much easier when in Peaceful mode. The ghasts... they burn... And the sound they make is extremely creepy.
[EDIT] Btw, here's my floating island. I'm currently on my crappy laptop though. :S
Not to mention I'm on the train, so the Wi-Fi here isn't brilliant, I can't really post anymore pics until I get home.

@WJUK: Only the sound my two portals make is extremely creepy.
BTW, wanna build multiple portals? Well, build your next one using your previous one. This way you'll save 5 obsidian for your first Portal, same for the second, and a whole 10 obsidian for your fourth portal. Continue building in this way and you'll have lots of cheap portals.

@DS: Oh trust me, the Nether sounds creepier.
And if you come out of a portal from the Nether and it generates a new Portal, you can actually obtain more Obsidian by mining it out (which produces 12 obsidian), when it only takes 10 obsidian to make a working portal.
Oh and you should see my Nether, it's just full of portals leading everywhere with signs.

@DS, if you use the redstone machine i built, you get 30 obsidian a try, so in a day, if you have around 30 buckets of lava, you can get 180 obsidian.
im gonna try and make something bigger than my machine, something ultra bi. HUMONGOUS!

@Nyubis, actualyl, ill be putting up alot of pics both here and on Dax's RD. so yeah. there are 5 new block types, though i've only found 2, and teh internets have only found 3 (Notch said the other 2 types are deep within the ground)
in other news, To dig, or not to Dig? that is a very easy question to answer after you've built 4 mineshafts, found nothing interesting, then get this in the 5th shaft.
and yes, i created the Obsidian therr, there was some lava, and i decided to pur water on it before it became a PITA.
The adminium (Bedrock) is a pain to dig around though.
ill post some pics of the nether in a bit.

@Nyubis: I could do, when I get back to Uni since I don't think Fraps would like to run on my current computer.
Not to mention, I'd get destroyed if I leave my current little safe-haven in Hell.
@wd: Great find! I never get that many resources clumped together. Oh and the 3rd block is the "slow sand" which slows you as you walk over it.

Actually, using the cheap portals, you can have lots of portals using low amounts of Obsidian.
Let's say we build using cheap portals.

Well, as we have a base, we can continue building upon it. So let's say we add another three portals, the cost, 18 Obsidian. So using only 46 (28 + 1

I should tell that there's a fatal flaw in my plan of portals, the placing. You have to place them exactly right to make sure that they don't lead to the same place. Though, I guess notch will fix this oddity within portals (how they share Nether point and how they)

@DS: That sort of placement would only really be useful in the Nether (as in the "real" world, they'd all go the same Nether portal). That being said, they'd be in such close proximity that they'd essentially lead to the same few portals, thus being pointless.

uhmm, i was firing up my Obisidium creator, and i was a few seconds in, and it was already popping out obsidium, so i decided to show you guys a pic of it! i blockedthe water emenatin form teh 4 streams to show you the obsidium, you can see where i blocked the flow of water.

@wd: I have the same thing in my place with the glass and pigs. Not the lava though. I just leave flaming bloodstone around though and they mindlessly run into it.
