Finally, it is publicable. It's far from done yet, but I can finally show it to someone.

Seems good to me.. Smooth movement, and interesting aharacter design (the parts that are possible to see).. Looking forwards towards seeing more of it. Cen't think of anything that needs to be changed.
pretty good, i'd make the jump a little shorter. But looks pretty solid so far
one little bug: you have max speed as 17, yet you can only reach 16...make sure you have speed<= not <
I thought of that, but the speed increases with 2 standard, so the value would swap continuously between 18 and 16, so I think it's fine the way it is.

I tried a head already but it totally didn't fit so I had to take it out 
And about seeing more of it... I really don't know what the final engine is supposed to serve for. That's why I try took keep it general and unspecified.
It's a good engine. Quite a few bugs to work out and such but that's to be expected. I like the look of it so far, with a little work you could make it work very well. You should work on the physics etc. and use placeholder art (e.g. stick figures) before adding any art. That's the I would do it anyway.

Making a running animation is pretty hard, even for a stickfigure. Unless I'd just motion tween the legs but that looks horrible.

What's the little swirly thing that goes where you click the mouse for.
Isn't that to show where you respawn?
And at first I walked straight off the screen and didn't understand why I was continuously falling and couldn't respawn... Not sure what it was now.
space respawns at your mouse's cursor, not at the swirly thing. That just goes whereever you click. It was actually there to indicate where the vcam was going, before I coded it so that you also had to hold ctrl to move it.
It's looking pretty good.
I would recommend a few things. Make gravity stronger so it feels less like you're floating and more like falling. Also, you may want to reconsider using vcam for scrolling and zooming. It will probably slow down your game a lot once you have large levels. A scrolling effect by just having the character stay in place, and moving the background in the opposite direction as he is moving.
That looks a little sticky. What I'm gonna do is delete a big chunk of the vcam's code that I don't need to make it faster. Then can still use bitmap caching and camera triggers.(still gotta figure out how to do those 2)
It was made to indicate where the vcam was going, before I changed the code so that you also had to hold ctrl to move the vcam.
Little update; shift-click to move the vcam now, so that mac users also can see the rest of the level. And the guy respawns at the puck now.
You could've used Apple click. (it's the equivilant of ctrl on macs for things like this)
When do i respawn? If i fall off the edge i just keep falling, and i can't see any dangerous objects or enemies..
