Ok, so I said I was going to do something like this on the rotfl lmao thread. But I've started it now so I'm going to make an extra thread here.

Here's what about 1/2 hours of work has gotten me to: Download here

It's an .exe file btw, the good thing about this is it's tiny! 44KB!

Now, there's a few things troubling me. Using text input seems more versatile and better than buttons but it's more time-consuming and complex. But that's not my biggest worry, what I'm most worried about is not being able to think up the correct combination of words and input so people won't be able to progress. So, yea, that'd be a bummer.

How about when we test it, we'll write all of our responses here for each question.

1) Run. X
Sleep. X
Read it. X
Read the letter -->

2) Run. X
Fight them. X
Run away. X
Sleep. X
Use your words. X

When I start again, enter the answer to screen one, it immediately killed me at screen two. Which sucks.

Yea, you're probably going to be dying a lot... that's why I'm thinking off adding that saving/loading feature. So you won't have to start from the beginning.

Oh and are you putting full-stops at the end of each command? Because I haven't done that at all for any of the commands.
That's what I was worried about with this type of input system. It allows for more choices and diverse paths (as well as easter eggs - try "break the 4th wall" or typing in the Konami code).

Btw, you can also pretend you're a demon.

Maybe what you should do is put some 'suggested responses' underneath the box. Say something like

You can either:
->Flee this battle.
->Fight the demons.

but keep the text box to make secrets and stuff.

I got to stealing the bag, but then got quite stuck...
Why not make it that it searches for one word in the command? Like with the letter part, if the command contained "read" that you read the letter. That would solve a lot.

Btw, the Konami code doesn't work.
Should I type: up up down down left righ left right b a select start
or enter the code as it should?

My progress:

>Talk
>Steal
>Go right
>eat the cheese --> crashdown. [runtime eror '13': type mismatch]

It crashed for me to at that point.

And if I try to Fight the demons I die and when I reload the game and try to read the letter, the demons kills me instantly.

No... And I still suggest you have the program recognise keywords in the commands, that would make everything a lot easier. If it's possible, that is.

Anyway, this is a really good job. The best I can in VB is this.

If you had your own website at Zymic you could upload your files there...

Also: I would be amazed if you know about it. The game was only translated to Norwegian, Danish and English. Plus that the game was released (In Sweden) 1986. PLUS that t only have a wikipedia page in Swedish. (Swedish name = Stugan)

But that game is still awesome...

Oh. I guess that was kinda stupid. And makes sense, since you can embed a vbs file, but can't embed a .zip/.rar.

I just did, here it is. Just gotta remember the case sensitivity stuff.

I also tested a thing like that. It TOTALLY doesn't work on Chrome. Chrome is invincible (for stuff that protects peoples rights)!

But there must be a script that protects people to copy stuff from you that is Chrome proof?

Nah, seriously, if you are an experienced hacker, and you mess with your browsers program code, nothing is secured. Unless they go and use really complex TrueCrypt-ed databeses.
