We do have a New FP Abilities thread. We've pretty much discussed everything possible that could ever be in the game, and Brad has said no to most of them....

I don't really feel like reading all 28 pages of the "New FP Abilities" thread, did we talk about destructible environments or multiplayer(co-op or other)?. Also I had a new idea in portal the flash version http://portal.wecreatestuff.com/portal.php there is a command line that you can go in to and edit. brad says that he will not release the code for FPA but maybe he will let us edit some of the game settings. what do you guys think?

I'm not sure we talked about destructible environments, but we definitely talked about multiplayer.
I think a command line interface would be pretty awesome, but options will be pretty limited.

We probably have, at some point or another. I'm not sure what you mean by destructible environments. The setting changer could work, although I think everything in FPA works pretty well without any need of alteration.
Ad for multiplayer, it depends on how you would want that set up. If you mean being able to play with anyone in the world, then no because that's just not possible for a flash game as complex as FPA. However if the person is on the same computer as you, it would be more possible but still difficult. Which raises the question how multiplayer would work into FPA in the first place. It's basically just a platformer, and there's a reason you never see multiplayer Mario games. Unless its just a bunch of puzzles like 'each player stands on a button and it opens a door', I just don't see how it would work into the game.

Double jump would be kinda cool, but some awesome power up's would make the game more fun. Like in FPA:W 1 when you get the walljump. Some ideas i have about power up's are: something like Ice Cream Cone give Fancy Pants Man the ability to run extremely fast (sugar rush). And somewhere you can find a jet pack that only could be used in that level. What i'm trying to say is that power up's would really be one awesome element to World 3. But something i think that Brad is going to do is improving the look of FPM and maybe make more season version. Christmas FPA:W 2 owned!

I think Brad has said he's not going to put powerups in the game. They might be cool, but then again they're a bit overused in games...

I think Brad wants to keep the gameplay rather simple, so anyone can pick up and play. The wall jump controls were pretty intuitive so that didn't complicate things much.
As for multiplayer, I could see that being a separate feature in the game but not really in the main game.
Oh and VG, there are multiplayer Mario games. If we're just talking about the main Mario series (without the spin-offs), most of them have some form of multiplayer although they tend to be taking turns (a la SMB3). However, the first Mario Bros game features simultaneous multiplayer. And SMG features multiplayer to some extent too.

Well he could do a platform racing style game where it's just a race. Sort of like a speed run be you are both playing at the same time.
Or
It could be like the new prince of persia game where you do acrobatics with another person. This would go well with FPM's other moves, but they controls would have to be really simple so it would be kind of automated. I don't know if it would work the only way to really find out is to try it.
I think a jet pack would be cool, but maybe it should be tethered so that you can't fly anywhere.
As for a command line interface it would work better with a game that has real physics instead of faked physics. If FPA 3 has destructible environments (as in you could change the environment like move dirt or cut down any tree) then it would probably have more real physics so maybe it would work.

True, but that was one single static screen, where it would be simple enough. With FPA the screen is scrolling, so it would be pretty difficult to keep both players on the screen at the same time.

I think you have to draw a line as to where the actual FPA series ends and spinoffs begin. It just doesn't fit the style of the regular games.

I suppose that could work, but even then it would probably take a while to do and end up adding a bunch of little puzzles to the game.

You mean like have a limit on how much 'gas' you can use? Like FLUDD in SMS, I guess? Even then, it might make the game too easy.

I think the jet pack's out of the picture - unless Brad does a specific level where he has to use it or something. Then maybe it could be unlocked totally after completing the game, just for kicks. XD
But yea, FPM was never meant to be a multiplayer game. But if it is going to have multiplayer maybe have it like the 2D Sonic games with tails (pre-annoying voice)? Where the other person is basically indestructible but can be off-screen (they catch up somehow). They can destroy enemies and such. But this way, the multiplayer is severely limited.

For the jet pack tether i was thinking something more like a rope that only lets you fly a small distance. This is the way they do jet packs in little big planet.
As for prince of persia gameplay i don't understand what you mean by puzzles i was not thinking that the whole game would switch the prince of persia gameplay just the movement and not all of that.

I'm not sure about a tether but I'm pretty sure a fuel-gauge would be much easier to implement. Maybe make the jet-pack solar-powered so it only works on daytime levels and you need to stop using it to let it recharge (???).

I don't like the whole day/night level idea. Didn't work so well in the last game it was in...
What would be different with the 'Prince of Persia gameplay'? The only advantage to having two players is an excuse for the game creator to throw in stuff that he couldn't do with just one player. In a platformer, there isn't that much...

Well you know how in all the gameplay videos of the new prince of persia, the prince and that girl (sorry can't think of her name) are doing cool tricks and stuff in mid air. One of them will swing to some new spot by holding the others hand and jumping. Anyway if you don't get what i am saying go watch a video. I can see FPM doing this sort of thing with the second player. Maybe the second player will just be FPM with a different color of pants or maybe someone else. this would be the only part of the prince of persia game that FPA 3 would use (no fighting of puzzles).
As for the jet pack i kind of like the day/night idea. maybe there could be a beam of light in a level and that is the only place to charge / use the jet pack.

Haha good one VG.
@Orange: She's called Elika. And you mean the "Step of Ormazd" powers etc.?
Posted 2 years ago # -
I just don't see powers happening in World 3. It'll complicate matters too much I reckon. Even though it may add replayability to levels. I'm sure Brad's thought about this before.

Yeah, we like it plain, awesome and simple.
That's the way a game shall be. No hard or weird controls.
Up, down, left, right, space, Q and S. Seven controls with plain simplicity.Starting to be a hippie about the controls.
