I have decided that my project for the summer is to make an Engine for point and click games. I really like the point and click game genre for a few reasons:
1. it can have a ton of story by using in game talking. this is not boring (at least to me).
2.the art can be super good because it does not need to be 3D.
3.they tend to have really good puzzles.
4.lots more that i won't get in to now.
Anyway...I really like the Myst games as well as the Nancy Drew games (yes i know they are for girls but i got in to them playing with my sister when i was younger and still find them fun.).
So for now I am going to call this engine the PAC (Point And Click)Engine. I will probably change the name later though. I am writing it in VB, mostly because that was the language I learned to program in and I don't really feel like having to keep looking up how to do things in a language that i don't know as well. I may end up changing to C# as I have a friend how will try to change my mind (he really likes C#). I don't know how many of you know VB (for some reason I think WJUK does), but I think that most of the stuff here will be general programing stuff so...
The main reason I am making a topic about all this is that you are all (except that one guy...what's his name...something to do with a color...) really smart and good at this kind of thing and I will be needing some help (I suspect). Also I will be able to put more names in to the credits. Another reason that I am telling you guys about this project is that maybe that will help me from giving up.
When (if) I finish the thing I will probably make a game using it with some friends from school. Or if anyone here is interested they could help out with that or (if a lot of people here are interested) we could make a game with just forum members. But I am getting ahead of myself, this thing will most likely end up being really bad and hard to use so no one (including me) will want to use it (assuming it even works).
So now that i have made you read a super long piece of text, i will stop and you can start. we can talk about the point and click genre and/or the PAC engine and/or any thing else that is at lest sort of related.
Oh one last thing: this post is way to long so i am going to talk about the engine itself in another post, very soon, if you all want to hear it enough for it to be worth me typing it all out.
