Of course we can fly with planes.
Although someone estimated how much power you'd need to fly like Iron Man in the movies. Apparently it comes out to about 2 Nuclear reactors worth of power.

1 nuclear reactor is worth...
humans can fly without planes if they achieve a certain speed while running and flapping their arms rapidly. I'm sure this is physically possible if we are very fast creatures.
If humans were to fly, they require 122cm thick chest muscles and a 28cm square area of wings.
As for my philosophic ideas, well, it is rather lame compared to you guys':
Chase Excellence and Success Will Follow - ???

WINGDEMON CAN FLY!! HE HAS WINGS!!!
LAWLZ!
Oh, that was dumb, again.

I has a strange philosophical idea! If we use 100% of our brain, we could levitate xD.
That's not so much philosophical as misguided theoretical science.
I guess I'm going to derail the thread and start a discussion with anyone interested here. Who are your favourite philosophers, and why?
Mine would be Nietzsche, Plato, and Descartes, even though they have very different ideals. Nietzsche has a really dark kind approach to things which I find oddly appealing and poetic, and his idea of the ubermensch is an interesting addition to Plato's idea of the forms. That, in itself, is a really stunning little bit of thinking because even though it might seem banal (nowadays) to think of a place where all the perfect models objects and creatures reside, it does raise some interesting questions about the essence of a being and what ultimately makes it what it is, rather than an extreme individual in the eyes of a beholder. I'm also reading through Republic right now, and it's as fascinating as it is engrossing.
And then there's Descartes! His methodical skepticism is simply iconic in the world of philosophy. Starting from the very basics of what he thinks can be known for sure is a bold step, and even though I might not agree with all of his ideas, he was without a doubt a great thinker.
So. What do you guise think?

@PinkSombrero that's a better thing to talk about actually.
Uh, thanks, I guess.

Oh no!! This thread starts being useful!

My favorite philosopher is Confucius. (Waiiit....Confucius counts right?)
I guess so, yeah. I haven't read up on Eastern philosophy as much as I have with Western philosophy, but it seems really interesting.

Sadly we don't have any famous philosophers in the Philippines.

Eastern philosophy can be quite different, but definitely worth checking out.
I follow Eastern philosophy fanatically! I have a collection of like over 9000! books on it on my shelf!
It just rules. It gives you a wonderful idea of freedom.
*yawn*
.......YOU!!! Get outta here immediately!! Why,oh,why do you have to follow me everywhere!!!
Why do I have such an annoying sister?!?!?!?!?!?!?
And,get your own wi-fi network!
*still yawn*
I tried getting into the whole Oriental/spiritual/postmodern philosophy scene. It was liberating but it didn't feel close enough to science for me. I feel comfortable with philosophy of mind and science and linguistics for now
That's not to say that I won't read up some more, it is fascinating.

Eastern philosophy is definitely worth reading about. Very different from western philosophy.
