Its good, but you should really get flash. I know a way to get Flash 8 for free, but i dont know if i should say it on the internet...
You know, if you're a student somewhere, you could probably get a discount on the current version of Flash.
But wait, I thought you said you had Flash 8 here.

Pivot is a good free alternative for people without Flash, but it can't really yield the same good results as Flash does. But it's still good to mess around in.
To answer everyone's questions:
(a) My friend has Flash, not me.
(b) I know the slide walking sucks, but when I make them actually walk, the result's even worse.

Pivot isn't even slightly choppy, you just need to understand how frame rates work with gifs and you need to be able to animate well. It's not the program that makes it choppy, it's you.
I originally got flash from using pivot, the probably biggest and best place for pivot would be either darkdemon.org or droidz.org right now, and they have a system of ranking for the best, where you can see some amazing animations. A compilation of some of the best would be darkdemon's rare collab DDcollab.com
