Beta .09, final (*crosses fingers*)

Alright, this should be the final beta. If something’s not fixed in here, chances are I either wanted it like that, or it would be too much trouble to fix. That doesn’t mean you guys can’t pillage through this version and make sure everything’s fixed, but unless it’s a major issue, I doubt I’m going to take the time to fix it.

My girlfriend’s been helping me on a wrap up page for the Beta, with all the bugs that were found, suggestions given, and what has been changed. Pretty much just a summary of everything that’s been accomplished during the Beta period. Huge thanks to her for all her help.

I’m trying to post this quickly, and I still need to paste all the new code from the working build over to the Beta build, so I’ll make a more official ‘yayz teh Beta is finished!’ when I make that wrapup page.

New features in this build:
– New spider animation, yes the old one looked pretty bad
– Slippery walls… Something I’ve been meaning to program for awhile now so I through some in there. Remember the ‘icy’ floor as someone put it? Well I finally remembered to color the ink over that, and now there’s ‘inky walls.’ This level doesn’t really take advantage of that feature too much, but you can still try it out. Jump at the walls with some upward momentum, no the real laws of gravity have no real effect here! It’s nice for going higher up the walls, or down quickly, as they’re slippery. You can press the direction away from the wall to get off of them quickly, making the section that I added them too able to be ran through even quicker now.

***To those new to the Beta, this is only a single level used for finding bugs in the code, though there’s a few new features to be found if you’re interested. There’s no goal to get the shell to, yet, but a few of the Beta testers have gotten the shell to the top of the level just for fun.***

Also, keep an eye on JayIsGames.com, they should be running a preview sometime monday, they even have some info that you guys don’t know about yet.

    wow, looks great. i feel happy that we will be credited for this… anyways, uhh… the hair animation is finally completed. i see you went back to the old FPA1 spider animation. anyways, looks great. i hope after this we can keep in touch, my friend. it’s been fun. maybe i’ll beta test for FPA3 and so on.

    Bug:

    I backflipped off the slippery platform to the right, held down and back, then hit the exact edge of another platform. I was instantly transported to hanging off the edge of the cliff next to the cannon. I have not been able to repeat the bug however.

    Then again, what kind of lovable ass makes an awesome game for us? Not many do.

    I also wanted to say, that I think you’ve got any bugs that could really affect game play. I say all-systems go for the final release. =P

    Now that FPA2 is almost out of the way. May I be the first to ask:

    ‘What do you have in store for this blog and your loyal fans?’

    FPA3? A spin-off (FPA: Zombie edition?)? Or a little bit of sweet FA for a while, a holiday even?

    I know it’s still early days and FPA2 isn’t quite out of the door yet but I really like your work and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you (and Mr Fancy Pants).

    Maybe it’s just my computer acting up or the speakers or something, but I’m getting sound lag. Like I’ll kick the shell and a second after he physically kicks the shell I hear the sound. Happening to anyone else?

    Amilir, the same happened to me.

    Or maybe it was the opposite. I ended up in the left wall.

    But it was so fast I don’t remember exactly what I did, though I remember playing in the slippery platform and then jumping from it.

    I couldn’t reproduce it either, and it happened on the .08 beta (I posted a comment about it)

    Still gonna have to check out that teleporting dealio, and any sort of sound lag is going to be the computer’s fault…

    just read the review. you let them play the entire world 2 game? the people who only write the review get to play it, compared to us beta testers who have been doing all the work? come on. let us play it, too. or i’ll hunt it down somewhere…

    I might see if I can’t replicate the teleportation bug myself. I haven’t had the problem at all so far. (although, it’s very possible I just didn’t meet the same credentials)

    BTW I still miss the old slide from the first demo. Maybe you can do an unbreakable slide down hills but if you try and slide on flat ground you’ll bounce off the baddies? That makes sense right? Also I hope there are plenty of loop-de-loops in the final game.

    There’s an old bug still active:

    Kill the spider near the cannon so that it’ll hit the wall and come towards the cannon

    Enter the cannon before the spider crosses it

    When the spider comes near the cannon, FP will leave the cannon and kick the spider, returning to the cannon

    The shell hit the spider and it, the spider, landed on the edge of the platform while stunned. It was hanging vertically. When it became conscious again, it went down a little bit and became stuck as you see in the pictures. If I could capture the video, you would see a blur of a spider constantly switching between downward and upward facing.
