More Baddie Fun

Update!

So, I’ve gone and opened up Squiggleville for general use in the baddie beta, and also added a few new things. The Baddie Beta and everything else I’ve added has been moved into a ‘Behind the Curtain’ level, the newest there is a test level that I built while testing out the new collision. Hopefully you’ll be able to see what I’ve changed, and how it plays differently (as well as lots of Snailshell bugs, sorry!), as well as a few new platform tests which I find particularly neat (and took a long time to build!). If anyone’s interested in the actual changes and code behind the update, I can make a video on it later or something, though either way, we’re way past due for a video.

If anyone finds bugs in any level, please EMAIL me the replay, DON’T post it in the comments!

Sneak Peak Beta

Got some new additions to the baddie arena. This should be the last update before I put the arena into the greater Sneak Peek, and everyone will be able to play with the newest changes.

Added a few new baddies. I’m not sure if I’ll be taking any more baddie submissions, if something awesome comes my way, I’ll certainly throw it in, I’ll just have to be a bit more picky this time.

Lots of subtle little changes in the combat, so you might not feel anything in particular, but everything should feel a little more solid, and scores should go up a tad. Experimenting with a little health bar, and a bit of an auto lunge, and a few more accurate ways of auto aiming the combat.

Since I’ve said I’ll be adding something extra to the Sneak Peek, and I always say that I want everyone to know more about what goes on behind the scenes, I’m thinking of adding a few of the test levels that I use to try out new code and check for bugs. Should be a fun peek behind the curtain, maybe it’ll give everyone an insight on the parts of the game making process that don’t make it into the final release.

Oh right, something much bigger but very very boring, I’ve added some code to compress the replay arrays a tremendous amount. Once I unleash the new collision on to Squiggleville, I have a feeling that lots of replays will need to be sent so that I can squash all the new awesome bugs I created. A few fixes to the ledge hanging code, also boring, still a little buggy πŸ™

As a tiny bonus, I’ll let everyone see the progress I’ve made with swimming. Lots of little things to make the water feel more alive, just a few new animations, you’ll see soon enough!

And again, so many thanks to everyone who submitted baddies to make combat debugging a little less horribly boring!

@Atilioo: If you are trying to post serial keys for Adobe Photoshop CS5, apparently they won’t work at all. That is because each serial key can only be used once and apparently, those keys you have are those that have already been used.

Okay, I continue without the Flash. But then .. I have nothing to do here. Now, I only see the updates of the FPM ..

Good. Everything is gone, my license for Photoshop C5, Flash C5 and Macromedia Flash .. I still remember when I wore it (Macromedia), like it was yesterday ..

Yeah, good times, but only Adobe did what I wanted: The lines stay scrawled over giving an impression ”stick” in the animation ..
I ever search it… And now is .–THE END–.

Surely, all for you. Guys, you are good peoples ;).
You only need to follow the image on. Simple thing.

Sorry, unable to access http://www.pastebin.com πŸ™

In this tutorial I will teach step-by-step how to make two types of iPod, as the image below:

    Prerequisites

    Adobe Illustrator (CS or higher).
    Goal

Learning, in a relaxed way, to deal with the tools of Illustrator.
    Content

    1st iPod.

    1. Open Illustrator and create a new document the size you want. I opted for size 800 Γ— 600. Use this as default. Do not forget to set the color mode to RGB (standard web).

    2. Then, go to tools and select “Rounded Rectangle Tool” (the rectangle with rounded edges). Click on the document and on the screen that appears enter the following information:

Options (Options) -> Always working with pixels.

    Width + (Width): 211px
    + Height (H): 344px
Corner radius + (radius corner): 16px

    3. You must have a rounded rectangle with the shape of our iPod. After that, we’ll get to work with gradients (gradient) to give the iPod metallic textures.

Well, to create our gradient, we first need to set the colors to be used in it. The easiest way to do this is to create squares with the colors you want, and then set new selected swatches with them. Look at the figures:

Select one square at a time …

then Swatches (Window-> Swatches), click New Swatch (figure below):

    4. Now it’s time to apply the gradients. With our selected rectangle, drag the colors to be used in it for the Gradient palette (Ctrl + F9). Notice how the gradient was in the picture below.

Do not forget to adjust the angle of gradient to 270.

    5. Well, now that I gave to get an idea of how to create a gradient, the next will show only the model of the gradient and you will have to go apply for catching the morning.

If everything went right, your rectangle will be as follows:

    6. Now create a normal rectangle (Rectangle tool) # 3F3F3F color. Create another rectangle normal, a little smaller, color # EDF3FB. This will be our canvas. More or less as it should be.

(If you do not know how to apply for a hex color in Illustrator, click Fill in the toolbox, and the color picker window, try to find

“#”. Here you put the hex value).

    7. Let’s assemble the status bar. What is at the top of the iPod. Create a rectangle and place it on top of the screen. One can align resolver.Feito this, go to the gradient. It’s very simple, create new swatches from these colors:

and mount as well (with the rectangle selected)

    8. We will now create the button. Pretty simple. Create a circle (which is the button), with the tool Ellipse Tool (L).

Center the button. Change your property line (stroke) and fill (fill).

    Fill = # D0D3D6
    Line # = EAEAEA

    It’ll be like that.

    9. Now let’s create a progress bar on the iPod. First of all, create a rectangle that resembles a status bar. This will be the bottom. We will use the same gradient of the iPod.

Select the rectangle from the bottom of the progress bar. Press (I) to use the eyedropper and then simply select the gradient of the larger rectangle of the iPod, to assign its gradient to our new rectangle. The only additional thing you need to do here is remove the line (stroke).

Now apply a shadow (Effect-> Stylize-> Drop Shadow) in this rectangle with the following properties:

    Mode: Multiply
    Opacity: 20
    X Offset: 0
    Y offset: 1
    Blur: 1
    Color: # 000000 (Absolute Black)

Continuing the progress bar, now go to the blue part, which moves during the song. Create a new rectangle, this time with a smaller width than the bottom. I chose to close the half. Now create a gradient with the following swatches.

and mount that way (do not forget to select the rectangle)

    10. You should have something like this:

    11. We are almost finished with this tutorial. Here are some things you can do now.

    * Add a black square on the screen for the iPod, symbolizing the art of the disc.
    * Write something on the screen, symbolizing the song information.

    12. Finishing Touches:

Add a smaller circle on the button to be more similar to the iPod. You can also insert arrows or something to pass, to make it more complete.
Add a reflection to your iPod, simply by creating a shape resembling a shadow and then apply a transparency.
Add a shadow to your iPod using a drop shadow.

    13. If everything worked, you will have something like that.

    Second iPod.

We come now to the second iPod. The work is greatly reduced now, if you created the first iPod without problems. Follow these steps:

    1. Create a new document if you wish. You can continue to do the same. (If you do in another document, first let the iPod open, because you will need some elements of this)

Select the tool “Rectangle Tool” (M). Click anywhere in the document. In the same way we did the first iPod, do the second. Check out:

    Options (Options)

    Width + (Width): 164 px
    + Height (H): 374 px

    2. You already know how to create color swatches. Now create four swatches of these colors.

and mount the gradient as well (with the rectangle selected):

    You have something like this:

    3. Remember what I said to save the other iPod, because you would need elements of it? Yes, yes. Now, you will simply copy the elements that make up the other iPod’s screen and paste in new document. Reduce the scale a bit to fit just right in this new iPod. Straighten the will that is written on the screen.

    You should get this:

    8. Almost ready our new iPod.

Create a circle. Center it as pictured below, with certain properties:

    Fill = # FFFFFF
    Line = # CCCCCC

Let’s create a nice reflection. Create a form for any reflection. The pathfinder will be useful tool in this process. In the next tutorial, I will address pathfinder.

    Here’s how the reflection.

Set the Transparency (Shift + Ctrl + F10) to Screen and Opacity mode -> 90%.

Drag up the iPod. That’s it. Ready your new iPod.

Has the beta with new baddies come out yet? I clicked on the link with the newest post, but it just plays the original sneak peek. If it did come out, then where is it?

@ICARAX’s post 2 pages back: People noticed I came back? Weird… But yeah, I came back. Just waiting for World 3, I guess.

  8. Aubrey

@The Cat Guy: Probably because the closest they can get to their dream vacation (PARIS!!!) is to copy and paste their face next to somewhere like the Eiffel Tower.

Guys, I found a half bug in world 2 the bunny level. When I hit the bunny with a shell for the last time and ran into him, there was still a spider that was right beside the bunny and I had low life, so I heard the dying music while getting the ice cream cone.

Hello, no time no see πŸ™‚

The reason I havn’t been posting anything lately is because I’ve been… busy, doing… stuff…
For example, one of the useful things I did while I was gone was to… um… make a tetrahedron out of nothing but paper! And everyone knows that tetrahedrons made out of paper are the most useful objects EVER!! (but not really)

To be honest, I havn’t been busy at all, well, I have gone a couple of times on vacations and other stuff. But I had lots of spare time too, which I could have used to post something on the forums here or in the comments…

But I didn’t because there is nothing going on at this website anymore… wish there was though, but doesn’t look like it right now.

But, when (or more likely IF…) more information about world 4 gets released, I will hopefully post comments here as I usually did before. πŸ™‚

(And yes, I tested the new baddies room and all the bonus stuff, awesome :P)

@The Cat Guy: Heard about it, not really the next big thing or anything like that, its mostly just an ”online reading experience” as J.K Rowling said herself πŸ˜‰

  14. ICARAX

@KCreator79: lol actually was wondering where you went.

yea, the website has become a bit boring… πŸ™ its not like old times when i was new.. πŸ™
