World 3 Report 3

Woot! We’re 3 for 3! This one went pretty well on the first go, so I didn’t have to redub this, hopefully it sounds a little more natural than the first 2, and hopefully that that’s actually a good thing.

A little less to show off in this one, I’m more looking for feedback this time around, so fire away!

(by feedback I mean what you think of everything in video, not new ideas, trust me I have too many ideas as it is :P)

    Well, I’m not gonna beg for a demo or anything, cos we all know thats not gonna happen. But I would like to ask, with the water, when you dive, will the speed at which you fall affect how deep you dive. That could add a bit of re-playability to World Three.

    I mentioned this on the forum, but multi-directionalism == AWESOME

    @Wallross: Okay well I’m probably going to release something before the main game is out (beta / demo / something or other), but that wouldn’t be ready for awhile either. Yeah, I know I’m taking forever on this, but I promise it will be worth it.

    Hm, the speed you’re diving definitely effects how fast you torpedo through the water, but you can generally just keep swimming downwards. Hmm, having some sort of water current that would require you to dive in at a certain speed to get past wouldn’t be a bad idea…

    @DaxterSpeed: I’m actually pretty happen with where I have the engine right now, but there’s a few more factors out there…

    I think a beta locked to my site to get feedback on how everything feels is more likely at this point than a demo released to portals like the World 2 demo was.

    So, Just an exclusive Beta hey…
    No one has commented on this yet but, I love the combo animation, just like the one for the Pirates.

    Also, is their gonna be an underwater monster?

    The branchiness of ME2D was a major plus for that game, I’m glad it’s one of the features that you are implementing into World 3.

    I also favor an option to engage in a combo rather than a single charged attack with the pencil. However, depending on how you get the pencil, the game seems a bit too easy right now. Are you looking at ways to make playthroughs more difficult? If so, what are they?

    Oh, and Wallross’s underwater monster idea is cool.

    First of all, another great progrep.

    I think underwater monsters could be awesome, and it leads to the idea; can FPM use his pencil sword underwater?

    Also, are there going to be any other uses of squiggles? I always really enjoyed collecting them, but there’s no real reinforcement for doing so. I’ll still love it to death no matter what you do though.

    if you can, please try and make it reasonable soon, we’ve been waiting so long, being so loyal to the website, posting comment after comment of constructive input, cant you give us just a little reward? 😛

    Another question that I’m certain has been asked before:

    Whence you finish World 8 or 10 or 9001, do you plan on bundling the worlds together in a downloadable version at any point?

    That was pretty cool.

    Maby you could find the pencil in one of the secret ledges or you could have a shop where you could buy the pencil and/or lives with the squiggles.

    Or, someone could give you the pencil for your journey, or after you defeat some pirates or, if you used wallross’s idea of a seamonster, after you defeat the monster.

    Also, maby you could multiple boss enemies, like first a pirate enemy and then a seamonster enemy and lastly… A GIANT SPIDER!!!!1! Oh, oh! What about ninjas? That would be cool.

    Lastly, you could have hidden worlds where you can get power-ups or stuff like that. Or, is that to much like “Super Mario”?

    Sorry if this is to long but the ideas kept flowing and if I didn’t get them all down then they would dissapear!

    How about a uppercut slash with the pencil when the attack button and up arrow are pressed simutaneously? And while Fancy Pants Man is in the air pressing down and attack sending him with the pencil tip pointed down?

    Well sorry for liking the shops but I forgot to say that all that didn’t have to be in world 3 maybe World 4. But the stuff like jumping ninjas were promised back in world 1.

    Even more moves?
    More stuff w/ pencil?
    Such as:
    Pencil as skateboard or surfboard (i like that one) or even hoverboard?

    Maybe you could spin the pencil as a propeller and fly or swim faster?

    Or use it as a handle for a zipline?

    Hmmm…

    Can’t think of anything else… :/

    Nothing is promised, Brad couldn’t “promise” something if he tried, everything is very tentative from what I can tell. So I don’t see why you would think that “jumping ninjas” were promised in World 1, let alone ever. 😛

    And I agree with Wallross, shops are a no-go IMO.

    Well it was an awesome video. I Think focusing on exploring but also making a really fast paced fun game is what drew me to the fancy pants series.

    I personally love these progress reports. It’s on a regular basis too, so that’s a double whammy.

    I would just like to throw out that I really like the impact pause on the pencil. It gives kind of a feeling of a working hit.

    Absolutely amazing, finding new paths and hard-to-reach spots will be great. I don’t know if you have decided yet what to do with all the special areas, but you could just make some new character there. Then the player could interact/talk with it or something, just for fun and making references about it that players who haven’t gotten there don’t understand.
    Or just add a trophy, that’s fine too.

    A beta would be sweet, I can’t wait to try out all the new moves.

    So the swimming would behave like in Dolphin Olympics?

    Also, the combo is sweet. Is it done by just tapping “a”? Or “a”-tapping and then holding up while hitting “a”?

    I’ve not posted for quite a while now, but I’ve been following the development of the game pretty closely, so I thought I’d give some feedback, not on this video in particular, but on what I’ve seen so far.

    I’m loving the fluidity of the FPM. The new moves are great and, most importantly, the way he shifts from one animation to the other looks natural. I like the little subtleties, like when he slightly ducks as he lands after a big jump. It would be cool if we could be controlling him on the banner, instead of the little sister. By the way, I’d like to see her on a progress report, and Kabootle too.

    Something I think deserves your attention is the spider animation. FPM has evolved substantially since world 1 and the new pirate enemies look spectacular. The spiders, however, look just as rudimentary as they used too in the beginning and I’m sure you can make them much better.

    I like the swimming gameplay, but was slightly disappointed by the animation for underwater swimming. It looks like he is running underwater, so I’d suggest perhaps making it look more like a flutter kick (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgZ5-oatDg8 – yes, I actually searched the name of the movement to show you what I’m talking about xD).

    I think that’s basically all I wanted to say. Looking forward to the next video. I hope I helped a little bit. 🙂

    @FO&Brad: What about disabling commenting on some of your posts, and adding a feedback topic on the forum? Some posts might just need that. Especially all about demo-bug-finding.

    Not related to all this. But somehow a very open idea.
