Legend of Excalipurr

“Oh! I can’t watch this!” she said as she curled up in her chair covering her eyes.

“No! No, it’s fine! I got this, I just have to figure out how I want to jump.” I said, concentrating.

I have to admit, it’s always nice to see a member of a development team reacting to someone playing their current project. I’m so used to feeling that sense of worry or watching it cross Brad’s face that I don’t even think about other developers/artists going through it.

I was at the local game dev meet up, where a few people (including Brad) had brought their games for people to try out. I actually hadn’t planned on trying anything out but had been handed the controller by someone who was finished playing. You don’t exactly want to say “no thanks” when someone who made the game is nearby, but being one of the few females in the group it was bit nerve wracking. I also have this anxiety when it comes to people watching me play games. It’s that inner feeling of your gaming skills being judged. I have no idea if it’s because I’m a girl or what but its there.

Anyway.

Happy New Year!!

We’re here, we’re alive!

Sorry for the absence, we’ve been scrambling quite a bit this past month. We had some small setbacks so we weren’t able to get W4 out this year. 🙁

Right now we are planning on an early 2017 release. We haven’t had too much to show off just because a lot of what Brad is working on is spoiler-filled. He’s also been working with artists and on the music (which is amazing), but it’s also something that needs to be ironed out before we post anything.

It’s probably important to mention that this will actually be a substantial sized game. Brad has tackled a lot of this by himself and it’s much larger than any of the other games he’s released (larger than all FPA games put together). There is a LOT going into this game and as much as we would have loved to get it out in 2016 we didn’t want to rush release and deliver an incomplete game. Nothing worse then releasing a game and saying “wait for the update THEN it will be REALLY good, promise!”.

Brad said he’s going to be around on here so if you have anything you want to ask/say to him leave it in the comments!

Checking In

Hey guys!

We’re still here! Just trying to cram everything we want into the last remaining time before release (remember we said before the end of the year, that’s still the plan!). Brad has been working  a lot on animations! He’s done some really interesting stuff and hopefully we can get another video out soon. Brad wants to save some of the new stuff for the lead up to release because he doesn’t want to post a ton of spoilers.

However,  I can tell you that we have artists working with Brad on the levels. I’m actually really excited about the artists Brad is talking to because I’m a fan of their art styles and I’ve loved their interpretations of Brad’s style so far. I’m very picky about art in FPA so I guarantee you’ll like what they’re delivering. Once I have some solid level shots for y’all we’ll get into who they are.

Here’s some new animation for y’all to check out:

Fairly Here

Hey guys,

I didn’t realize how long it’d been since there had been a post on the site. Brad mentioned before that I’ve taken over the social media for World 4’s development. Someone mentioned on there that the blog hadn’t been updated in a while and I’m sorry about that. With me handling Facebook, twitter, and instagram I kind of pester Brad for snippets and small things here and there because the whole point is to foster interest and grow the audience there.

For the blog, Brad likes to break things down and explain what he’s doing so posting small things with cheesy quips doesn’t really work here.

He’s kind of been inundated with work as of now, working really hard to try to get the game released before the end of the year. There’s a lot he wants to talk about but he’s also trying to make sure that he’s making something that his y’all (and all FPA lovers) will enjoy. Meanwhile I’m chirping in the background “Brad! I need something to post this week!” or “Ummm can I post what you’re doing right now?” which probably isn’t helping his focus much. Social media is a necessity to get the word out though, so hopefully he doesn’t mind too much.

Is there anything y’all want from me? I mostly try to keep the blog as Brad’s thing since Bornegames is his creation. Mostly I just post small things on social media and then reply to questions.

Brad should be posting something soon. Right now he’s just plowing through stuff.

I also noticed that there have been posts on the forum about my updates on social media and AJ32 noted that I was in Boston (btw AJ32 I like need to send you a fruit basket or something, you’re awesome).

Between May and July Brad was working on things that he didn’t want to post because, well, spoilers. Let’s just say this was a very frustrating time for me as a social media manager. I was also in Boston for a period of time for a vocal conference. I never mentioned it here (I don’t think) but I’m finishing off a degree in vocal performance which isn’t easy with Brad working full time and three kids under the age of 5. It’s been an interesting year.

In short, guys, we appreciate y’all. Please don’t think you’re being ignored. I can’t reveal anything without Brad possibly hitting me over the head with a frying pan (just kidding, he’d probably glare at me then roll his eyes) but my experience is this game is going to be good. Really good guys. I can say 100% with confidence that this game will be amazing, and that’s not the supportive wife role, that’s the “I’m a female gamer and I will not sugar coat this because doing so will completely make me look like a tool”.

I Promise…

… this is relevant to your interest.

I’ve mentioned this offhand on the forum, but I wanted to bring it here. I’ve taken over @runfastrunfancy on Twitter and also The Fancy Pants Adventures on Facebook.

All of you here on the site know that Brad and I really love tailoring what we do to what the fans like to see so I wanted to bring this to all of you.

What is it you want to see here? On social media?

Do you prefer videos, images, bullet point outlines, or maybe random pictures of cats? Do you like constant updates when we mention the little things changing or for us to just wait until we have bigger, more substantial news?

Honest feedback is really appreciated guys. I don’t want to post useless information or spam your inbox or twitter/facebook feeds (although they hide stuff pretty darn well unless you pay, jerks).

Look forward to hearing from you!

Still here

Hey guys!

Totally know I’m not the one y’all want to hear from now since, well, I’m not Brad. I got a comment on my last post and realized we hadn’t had a post since AUGUST! Eeeegh!

In this case the lack of posts is a good thing because Brad is busy busy! What is he working on? We should be able to reveal that soon 😉

stay tuned!

So Hey

Hey guys, I’m not sure if any of those still lurking will know who I am. I know I’ve been MIA for quite a few years, decided to post something. I’ve reenrolled in school (for classical vocal performance) and am currently chasing 3 kids around so my time is very little. What’s not spent wrangling kids I spend analyzing music.

My last Music History class we were told to list who we felt were some of the most influential composers of this century. I went a bit outside the usual genres and listed Koji Kondo. We were asked to list a specific work and then note why we felt it was significant. I listed Ocarina of Time (of course, if you read any of my previous posts you know my love for this game). Tomb Raider

So! I know the last game I mentioned playing was Virtues Last Reward (which I am still playing, thank you unlockable timelines I need in order to complete the game)  BUT Brad sucked me into Tomb Raider. Something about wanting a female opinion on a female protagonist or something along those utterly sexist lines. 😉

ANYWAY! Brad bought this for PC  and I played it with a XBox controller so I’ll be judging it from that angle. I did have a few freezing issues that made me need to restart it. Brad has apparently not experienced it yet, but oh goodness it’s frustrating. Luckily this game saves about every five seconds.

From what I understand this is a reboot. Full disclosure, I swore to myself I would never play this game. After seeing numerous cosplays with random internet nerds drooling over girls I’m not fully convinced know what an inverted control is I was very jaded about the whole idea. Not to mention the whole Angelina Jolie computer enhanced thing. The whole thing was enough to churn my stomach. I know, I’m one of those girls that just doesn’t care about stereotypes and thinks the whole uber feminist thing is blah but geez Tomb Raider’s publicity just turned me off.

That being said:

Ah rants . . .

Watching Brad play Resident Evil 6 Demo:

Fairly: At least his hair looks good.

Brad: His hair looks horrible!

Fairly: What are you talking about? His hair looks amazing!

Brad: No, look . . . adjusts camera . . . see the shadows? It’s horrible!

Fairly: Whatever, you aren’t a girl, you have no idea what you’re talking about!

[Brad: Leon’s hair was fabulous! (as it was in Resi4!) It was the shadowing that sucked :P]

———————

Brad: Why am I even here? Look, she’s killing everyone for me. I’ll just stand here.

Fairly: You’re just supposed to stare at her. That’s the entire point.

Boo

Fairly here, which means that posting anything under this post will not make sense if it’s directed at Brad 😉 (did that sentence make sense?)

What can I say? Welcome to motherhood for me. My gaming life has gone drastically downhill since having a son who apparently decides to break every single milestone ahead of time. At this rate maybe I can get him gaming by 12-18 months . . . hmmmm. He might break all of my Mario Kart high scores by age 2! Just kidding, I don’t have anything you could refer to as a “high score”, must keep up that feminine mystique or whatever.

“Chase, Chase McCane”

“Chase McCane! You’re a legend!”

….. Well I’ve never heard of him! Hmph

By demand (from one person, I’m a pushover) I’m going to post my thoughts on this new Lego game. Disclaimer, I have only heard of the Lego games, I have never actually played one. It’s not because I thought they looked extremely childish (I’m all about extremely childish), they’ve just always been overshadowed by other games that have been released.

I do know that my cousin, Sarah, was a big fan of at least one of them. She’s a massive gamer, and one of the few opinions I’ll really listen to on gaming. She knows her stuff.

Nintendo E3

Well, I was trying to figure out how best to word this post, but I couldn’t’ find a way so I’m just writing.

Despite the fact that Nintendo was fully introducing the Wii U at this point, they didn’t have too much to offer. There were so many other presentations after the big one that I was hoping there were a few surprises in store. Not so much. The roundtable seemed to focus most on Nintendoland and the 3DS presentation was basically a recap of the E3 presentation. I mean, REALLY?

You’d think that since they were naming something “Wii U” they might have a little motivation to do something spectacular with it. Nintendo just fell back on games that everyone KNEW were coming to Wii U (such as Mario, Nintendo = Mario) and offered nothing new for fans to drool over. All of the presentations were “safe”.

I was expecting something crazy like a new F-Zero or even an awesome third part addition like Professor Layton or Phoenix Wright. Shoot, they could have easily put Layton and Wright on the Wii U.

Oh! Or Mario Paint! F-Zero and Mario Paint were the two I was crossing my fingers for.

Trust me, with all of the potential retro games being brought back going through my head I was sorely disappointed with everything Nintendo brought forth.

Who knows, maybe they’ll surprise me later but the last two E3 presentations have been absolutely bland.

Someone mentioned Madden and FIFA in a comment on a previous post. While the new features may be cool, it’s still underwhelming. We all knew those would be announced, that doesn’t help the pain and disappointment I feel. 🙁

Btw I’ll make a post on the Lego games. While obviously geared more towards the younger crowd. The whole thing just has the potential to be very interesting, especially with the way the dialogue seems to be written.
